I actually like the texture so it's not a big deal. For paint to stick, the walls have to be clean. Primer paint can seal over a lot of dirt and stains but sometimes it is much easier and quicker to just clean the wall and you can avoid the extra time and depends on the dirt. Let it dry and then sand it back again.
