If you can drill some screws into at least one stud that should help a lot.
1/2 drywall doesn't have the same strength a 5/8 inch, and both are common. With so much investment literally riding on your anchor, your boat's anchoring system is no place to cut corners. There are several kinds of drywall anchors and they each have their own weight rating. Find studs in the wall (buy a studfinder).
